Ocean Reef Park is by far the most consistent beach break on Singer Island. Singer Island – the same island bought by the great mogul of the sewing machine as a gift for someone he loved. The only part that is left of his legacy is the name, as the island now consists of rich neighborhoods and gigantic condo buildings. But, if you’re at the island and you need somewhere to surf, Ocean Reef Park is the way to go.
The beach is a mixture of sand and reefs; the reefs benefit with wind and ground swells, especially northern swells. Unfortunately it blows out so easily, so fellow surfers advise to go out early in the morning. Best season is from August until May.
The waves at Ocean Reef Park create short, yet very fast rides, which break to the left. As a surfer, Ocean Reef Park makes you choose what is more important about a wave. If you travel to the north of Lifeguard Tower, you like consistency or the guarantee that there’s going to be a wave when you finally paddle yourself out there. But if you stay in the south, then you’re looking for the best ride this beach has to offer.
You can find Ocean Reef Park off of A1A, in between Blue Heron Boulevard and Palm Beach Gardens Boulevard. Free parking is available all year round at the Ocean Mall. Singer Island has many places to eat – from quick bites all the way to fine dining. There are also hotel accommodations aplenty in the area. Singer Island has one surf shop, which provides up to the minute surf reports and specializes in selling and renting equipment.
Singer Island gets very dangerous at night – so don’t go on the beaches after dark. Also, these waters are also home to many different species of shark.
